Tailgating

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like people ride my ass just because I'm in a lowered car with exhaust. It's like they're trying to make a statement or something equally strange. Like, "Well hurry up, you people are always racing around, get going..." And it's not like I'm driving like a grandma.

Maybe it's just me.

I know what u mean tho, i get ALL KINDS of wierd shit. my car is bright orange, loud, and pissed looking, everyone likes to stare at me and "race" me. No one tailagates me tho, they cant keep up!

No it's not just you it happens to me all the time and I had a stock exhaust....people just see the car lowered and the SRT rims and they act all bad. Wait till my SRT swap is done and I hand them their asses.....that shall be priceless.

Ahaha this is soooo true! Usually its big ass Ford trucks that are like, "I am gonna run over you if you don't speed up!" The other day I was coming home from work and this dude was in an older Camry and I was going the speed limit. He was stuck on my ass... I think he was a homo.. anyways I sped up to like 50 and he flashed his high beams at me. WTF!? So I get to where my neighborhood is and I turn really really slow. He honks his horn and I flip his ass off. He continued to go straight. I dislike tailgaters.

I forgot I have the 2gn decal back there, maybe they're trying to get closer to see it. But usually it's not other modded cars who tailgate. Most of the time, they hang back and give eachother a little respect. Usually it's older men, or middle aged, maybe they've been cut off and passed one too many times by modded cars.

I get tail gated all the time, sometimes when im going over the speed limit. I usually just downshift into the lowest possible gear i can shift into and see if they are paying attention to more then just my brake lights : P

That's asking for an accident.

I guess it would be there fault though, and maybe they'll learn a lesson.

How about the people who use the cars in front of them and behind them to stop themselves to parallel parking?

^lol i hear u lolebsxt i do the same thing! downshift, but its no secret, im sure they hear the rumbles and realize whats happening when we slow down but theres no brakes. come to think of it, i dont use my brakes very often at all. almost all my slowing down comes from downshifting when coming towards a stop sign/light. its just natural for me, but i suppose it isnt necessary on the street.

I hate tailgaters. There is NO reason to tailgate. If your late for something, you should have left earlier. If your that impatient, then find your own roadway. I get tailgated all the time in the HOV2 lane. I am running 10 MPH ABOVE speed limit. I figure thats good enough for me, its good enough for anyone. The flashing of the lights does nothing in the USA. That may go in Europe on the Autoban, but not here. I will not compromise my driving for anyone. Its a roadway, its not a racetrack.

(Not that I have any built up anger or anything)

I hear ya though. It does get annoying. So for payback, i'll either drive slower and/or block the person from passing me. That always brings a smile to my face.

Tailgating in California? Its a way of life here. Shit, they print the DMV handbook in 45 different languages and the street signs are in English....do th math. California suck booty for that.

And yes, most of the time it is some needle-di*k in a lifted F350 with a stupid-ass "METAL-MULLISHA" sticker in the back window.

And yes, its prolly the "well you race around all the time thing."

I tailgate people on purpose when they are going slower than they should (like those doomass people who do 20 in a 25!?) I also enjoy ilegally passing slowpokes just to show them how damn slow they are. i know id feel terribly stupid if someone passed me due to my incredibly slow speed. other than that, if someone is doing the speed limit and im stuck behind them, its all good. headlight flashing is straight useless. In some parts of CA youll get shot up for flashing the wrong person, cuz its considered a "gang threat" of some sort. I forget the deal on that, but some innocent people were shot a few years ago just for flashing. crazyness.

Tailgating seems pretty popular up here too, so maybe it's not just me. I see at least 1 rear end collision a week it seems, and countless near misses. But it also seems to be slightly worse when in the modded car as compared to the Charger.

Having gone from my Neon to the Charger I can back up that statement as 100% true. No matter where I was going in the Neon it seemed like someone always thought they should be right on my ass. With the Charger I honestly can't think of a time when there has been someone that close.

Read the most recent edition of SCC mag, they have an article from the editor about why we have no Autobahn like roads here in the States - tailgating is one! People do not even know that pedistrians, whether in the crosswalk or just approaching it, have the RIGHT OF WAY. Sorry, just a rant.

Oh, and I hate left hand lane drivers. GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY! I do not care if you are driving speed limit or 10 over, if I come up on you in the fast lane, get over.

I agree, and if I'm in the left lane and someone comes up on me I'll always move out of there way.

However, the comment made by moparnighthawk was in reference to the HOV lane, and in that case I couldn't agree with him more. Nothing bugs me more on the highway then the people that think the HOV lane is the fast lane. If I'm in the HOV lane and someone starts tailgating me I'll slow down. It's the HOV lane, just because it's the far left lane doesn't mean it instantly becomes the super fast lane.

I thought that only applied when it wasn't between the hours of 4 and 6pm? Any other time I thought it could be the super dooper lightning fast lane? Yeah I dunno... we don't have a HOV lane in Cincy

The tailgating thing is annoying though... whats worse is the people that like to move in and out of traffic to get ahead. I think those people are on the top of the list as far as annoying drivers go.

Our HOV lanes do have times, and I respect those times. Most people however do not. Almost 50% of the cars in the HOV lane are not supposed to be in there. Its simply because most people driving now days do not care about anything at all.

Ours have times too, it's 5am to 7pm, but that's also only on certain highways too I believe. And it's like as soon as it's 7pm, everyone gets over and the other lanes are clear.

Meh, I usually maintain my speed, and they go around eventually. I used to get all riled up: brake check, let off the gas, throw up a middle finger, etc. I just got tired of it, I guess I'm one of those drivers who just doesn't care anymore. I go exactly the speed limit in whatever lane I'm in, and if somebody doesn't like it, they can pass me.

High Occupancy Vehicle. Usually the lanes are posted with the times and restrictions. The ones I use on I-270 in Maryland are HOV-2. HAHA....nah I don't drive slow....well now I do because the car is half apart....in the middle of the swap...but when thats done you will be the slow one.
