Does Srt-4 Turbo system bolt onto other 2.4L engines

Post by Young Gunna » Fri Jun 16, 2006 12:46 am

So im wondering if i were to swap a 2.4 from a stratus or w/e, would the srt-4 turbo system bolt on, i am mainly concerned with the turbo manifold fitting on.

Also im gunna go on a limp here and assume that the 2.4 internals are not much better than the SOHC 2L but they should still be able to handle lets say 250ish tq before a serious build up?

this has probably been mentioned or asked in previous threads BUT i cant seem to locate them, the search function is too advanced for me

does the 2.4 L drop in?
i assume you need mounts?
does anyone make mounts for the swap into a 2gn?

given that i find a donor car (stratus or wherever i find that 2.4L engine) the swap should be simple if i have the ECU and harness

ive been on the boards for a bit, absorbing any bit of information related to this topic but i just need confirmation so i can start makin some plans and advance with my project

-in case anyone is wondering my car is a 2000 LX 5spd

-and if you are wondering y i am not looking for a wrecked srt, well i live in Canada more specifically toronto area, and they just are too rare :(

thank you for any input

It will work, but the other 2.4's will not handle as much as the SRT or GT Cruiser. They are completely different engines internally, as well as the oil drainback. The SRT/PT block has 3 massive drainbacks on the back of the block, the other blocks don't have enough drainback, and could possibly starve the engine under high RPM passes. They also don't have the oil squirters to cool the pistons and rods.

In short, will the turbo bolt up? Yes
Will it handle 300+whp? No

It may be easier to find a PT GT block and head and tranny that will suit your needs. Everything else, you can buy on ebay or the srtforums to fit into your car. Like your mounts, intake manifold, computer, etc.,

ok tnx

im really confised as to what to do now
that seemed to be my only solution to goin boosted without an srt-4 donor car

hopefully ur "company" pulls through

Forget it.....if your worried about a stratus engine handling an SRT turbo then whatever turbo his "company" can make will be just as likely if not more likely to blow your engine. The only way to get a reliable turbo is a flat out swap....with an engine that was designed from the factory for boost.

Gotta put the SRT pistons/rods in if you want the older bottom ends to handle abuse. I'm putting my 2.4 together from a 99 Stratus motor and I'm putting in SRT rods/pistons/main bearings/rod bearings/rings in, as well as getting rid of the balance shaft assembly and putting in a better oil pump. Plenty of people have gone this route and even with the stock oil pump, no problems have come up. Personally, I'm going with the better oil pump just for a little shortblock insurance.

Are the 2.4 and 2.4T different inside? You bet. But almost everything can be swapped from one to the other. I'm going with stock SRT parts because they're so cheap and very readily available. Swapping SRT internals into an N/A 2.4 is a pretty damn nice low-buck boost option and I'm surprised that more people don't do that.

Yea im still tryin to source a 2.4 L from a stratus,

a 2.4 Na with everything, ecu harness and so on

does my Lx 5 spd tranny bolt up to the 2.4?
does the 2.4 need a modular or non modular clutch?

what other cars came with the 2.4 L

That 5-speed will bolt right up. I don't know about the clutch because I'm using an older 8-valve turbo flywheel on mine so I can use my Shelby Daytona transmission.

As far as engine internals what would be my best bet

that 2.4L with srt-4 internals or a 2.4L bottom kit off like modern

im thinking cause after some reaserch i confirmed that the SRT-4 block has oil squirters for the rods and pistons for cooling, and im thinkin those r there for a good reason

i thought it dinit becuase the spidle count on the axles was higher and the fact that it uses a diffrent clutch

young gunna: go for the srt internals.. there both internals aint making a diffrence
