tuning frequency of ported box

Post by beelay » Mon Jun 19, 2006 1:16 pm

As i've posted before, I'm buying a jl audio 12w6v2. I am going to build my own ported box that I would like to fit between the wheelwells of the trunk. On jlaudio.com for custom enclosures it says that the tuning frequency is a function of the cross sectional area of the port, the length of the port, and the enclosure's net volume. What should the tuning frequency be? I've seen some people have it tuned to in the 30 Hz area etc. I don't know how to decide what to tune it to.

my 12" RE Audio HC is in a 3.3 cubic feet box [ too big for a neon trunk ] @ 32hz.

heres a video of me testing out the sub, powered by a Hifonics BX1500D @ 1ohm.

im just wonder what are you after SPL [ sound presure level ] , SQ [ sound quality] or SQL [ mix of both ]. there wayyy better subs for less of the price of JL's

I am looking at both sound pressure level and sound quality, but sound quality is a little more important

So what is that range that people tune their enclosures to (maybe 20 Hz to 100 Hz) I have no idea

the tuning on the enclosure matter on what kinda music you want and all that. most daily driven setups are between 29-40hz, or so. i would suggest asking on caraudio.com/forum,
