new ideas..

Post by krc21 » Wed Nov 12, 2008 3:23 pm

So although I have not finished my srt swap i already have more plans in mind after that. I think i will keep my neon as a fun daily driver. I am getting sucked in to the world of drift... I want to build a rhd 240. I have been researching and i could build a legal rhd drift machine for no more then 6000 bucks. It would be a powerful sob too. what are your guys thoughts on 240s and the world of drift?

well for starters 240's are already rwd, (assuming i read what u posted right), look for a video on the torrents called drift bible (if i can find the link ill post it for you), it is a fantastic video that goes through almost every aspect of drifting. Me and my buddy used it as a teaching aid for when we were learning.. That is where i would start b4 i even thought about getting a car, this way at least you can get the mind set for what you are wanting to do... im gonna go look 4 that link now

lol kyle its funny that u mention this since the other project car that I built (my friends car) is a 240. Ask John he seen it and its probably one of the nicest 240 that I have ever seen. But He has put more than 17,000 in it, hell the SR20 DET swap alone was about 4,000. So Im not too sure where u are getting ur numbers from but I think to get a Nice RHD u need at least 10 k and on top of that if ur gonna be drifting ur gonna need reserve money for when (yes i said when) U break ur car. I have seen guys smack walls and its not pretty. Drifting like all other types of racing are expensive but It does look fun as shit. My friend went away from the drift part and stayed with the show part but his car can hang but it got too expensive for him.

Here are some recent pics of his car since it just got out of paint.

You need a bittorrent client to open the torrent file and begin the download.

I honestly think that drifting is the automotive equivalent of Figure Skating.

I have respect for power, fast, clean cars.. But I just don't understand the point of getting sideways and wasting tires. Any "Sport" that has a judge just isn't for me. I'd rather use the power and speed to go around the corners fast and get the quickest time.

Nothing against your idea. I'd say build a 240 and use it for something other than automotive figure skating.

Actually Now that I think Of it I think a full front clip from Japan Cost like 5 k sooo If u did some research and found a good deal some where u coould get a full RHD front clip for a decent price. But U would still need to buy a 240 and swap everything over. Kinda like ur swap now except its a 240.

well you can get the front clip of an sr20det red top for 2500 then you can find a shitty 240 for around 2000 thats 4500 for a rhd car that runs well and drifts but looks like shit. now i dont mean serious drift obviously i would need to get into suspension and stuff but just to start out.. i mean it would be a fun project..

yea but I warn u Have a drill , drill pits and a tap kit and alot of extra bolts handy cause man I think I must have broken at least 70% of all the bolts. But yes it is fun it always is. But like they say u can only go as far as money takes you.

I have the DVD so Kyle come over one day and you can watch it.

I bought a '85 Celica Supra to build into a drift car a few years ago. It ended up just sitting there rusting away so I gave it to some guy. I plan on buying another one soon.

My cousin had a 240SX. Shit was great. Then he wrecked it. But I gotta say, drifting is fun as hell. But tires are expensive, and you'll probably wreck. A lot. Granted, I never did, but it happens. Look at Hulk Hogan's son. lol

Aren't those cookie tail lights like $400? That JDM shit gets really expensive. My friends 240 is the same color

I've seen this car in person. There is so much sick uber-rare stuff on it. Bride seats and center console lid, carbon fiber hatch, one-off modified body kit...the list goes on. The tail lamps are probably one of the least expensive parts on it
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

That 240 looks good and as for me love drifting and go to it as much as possible when they have the events on the east coast that are in driving distance. But my roomate has an s14 240 and he has some wierd set up that the car gets a good slide on it own. but yeah drifting is one hell of a ride if you looking to get into it.
