pbl3's 2.0 build up
pbl3's 2.0 build up
Hey everyone!
I've had my Neon for about 2.5 years now, and it's time she gets a little love. She's a 2003 SE, flame red (pics to come.. none on the laptop!) and at the moment I have a DIY intake, magnum manifold, 2.25" exhaust with a Dynomax VT muffler.
Also, I have an MS-2 waiting to be hooked up, using a donor ECU for easier connecting.
I have a magnum head sitting in my garage right now, which I plan on making a project out of. In the future are Crane/Crower springs and retainers, a crane #14 cam, along with supporting parts, upgraded 2.5" exhaust with a TTi LTH and a Dynomax Ultra-Flo round muffler.
I'm really excited about this build up, after I get another car to drive daily, then more than likely this will be turbo'd and become a drag car. The new guy at work has been building cars with his group of friends for a while now, and they took me to the drag races for my first time the other week... needless to say they're the best bad influences ever
More to come as the parts come rolling in, and like I said before, pictures will come very soon!

Did you already get the mag head on the car?? I realized when I did this wiring the mag stuff up wasn't too bad (assuming you're doing it the OEM way using an R/T pcm) but it sure took me a lot of going back and forth with the FSM and drawing wiring diagrams out to see what I needed to do to make it work. It ended up working just fine though and looked OEM in the end. I'll be watching this build for sure.

looks pretty good! have you looked under your side moldings? the black ones always look so out of place to me...

Black is the SE trim. Also just noticed this car is an early 03 model. You can tell by the back bumper. The boobies have a different shape.

Not yet, the mag head is getting some goodies planning on a crane #14 cam and supporting parts, upgrading the exhaust, then once I get another DD, she's getting boosted.Did you already get the mag head on the car??
Sorry for the poor background info, its a 2003 SE, the magnum manifold was put on by myself with an RPM switch but no WOT switch (mo' money). The stupid black molding is new (accident) but I'm gonna rip it all off, I hate how it looks.
what window switch did you use? i have one im needing to install and was looking for a good cheap one.
but ya i had the black molding on my old 03 se and it just doesnt fit in but it looks good when you take it off. minus the black handles but you should be able to find some handles in the junk yards with the (flame red?) those arent too hard to change out.

Just a Jegs generic rpm window switch and an MSD tach driver. Once you figure out what grounds what and all that jazz, its all pretty straight forward. I made the mistake of being lazy and not finding a switched 12v though, I put it straight to the fuse box 12v so its always on.what window switch did you use? i have one im needing to install and was looking for a good cheap one.
Don't know what to order next! Cam, springs, exhaust and muffler, header... So many choices!
Update!
After looking into the crane #14 cam, it looks like it requires 10+ compression. I would totally go for that, but I don't want to spend $500 on pistons just to need new ones once I boost the car. So, the comp 400 it is! No more need for springs and retainers, so my magnum head is going to be installed sooner than later!

Depending on how much tuning you wanted to do with boost, the 400 might be a better starting point anyways.
If you really wanted to go to the trouble, you could use DOHC pistons (10.3:1), (You can get a set for ~$100 off ebay) then spend for decent pistons when you go with boost. Or swap your 9.3:1 pistons back, if that's what you were going to use.
Tho a set of good used connecting rods to go with those DOHC pistons would make life simpler, if doing that.
